Mathias Schneider - Census Reports

The 1880 Federal census lists children as John age 6 born Bohemia (would be son of Mathias and Katherine), George age 2 born Bohemia and Minnie age 1 born Nebraska.

The 1900 Federal census records that Mary had 7 children-6 were living and lists children as Herman born May 1878 Nebraska age 22, Mary born Oct 1882 Nebraska age 19, Francisca born May 1885 Nebraska age 15, Frank born May 1889 Nebraska age 11, Rudolf born Mar 1893 Nebraska age 7, Rosa born Mar 1897 Nebraska age 3. It is known that there was one infant daughter born between Mary and Francisca. This would account for the 7 chldren born to Mary Schneider.

Although the 1880 census records George as born in Bohemia Mathias is known to have immigrated to America arriving April 1877. That being true a child age 2 (born ca 1878) would not have been born in Bohemia.

At first glance the 1900 census seems to record May 1875 as the date of the birth of Herman. However, his age is recorded as 22 (1900-22=1878). On closer examination what appears to be a "5" seems to have an upstroke that would make it an "8".(May 1878)
